When Elmer Cobb died, he had been with the Boulder Police Department one year and was 45 years old.

Patrolman Cobb was shot and killed by unknown assailants while on his way to work. He was walking from his home to headquarters just six blocks away when he was attacked behind a billboard and shot execution style. His murder was never solved due to Prohibition-era political corruption.
